Health, Self, Wealth and Social-life balance

In the Movie, The Secrets: Dare to Dream, it is stated that “Your thoughts attract things with a force that you cannot see but definitely real.”

Could the unfolding developments in our lives be a reflection of our thoughts?  This brings me to the philosophy that in whatever we do, our overall goal should be to create an environment to be contented, happy and fulfilled today, tomorrow and for posterity.

Looking at your personal perspective, are you happy, contented and fulfilled?

Do you feel lack of control of; what you do, how you do it, what you say, how you say it and how you spend your time, then most likely you are unhappy, un contented and unfulfilled.

You may have different thoughts about these experiences. Whatever you think about these experiences may in one way or another fall into four categories: Health, Self, Wealth and Social/Spiritual dimensions.

Let’s delve into these four aspects:

Health is un questionably the most important aspect of human existence. Being healthy means being fit, vibrant, free of pain, doing the right exercise, nutrition, and mobility.

To illustrate this, just choose a day and walk to the hospitality, decide to visit accident ward or terminal illness ward like cancer. Ask one of the patients, whether he would rather have a hundred thousand dollars given to him or be cleared of his/her terminal illness. The answer is obvious.  Right.

Secondly, take it strongly that all life freedoms (self, wealth and social/spiritual dimensions) may not have much value to you if don’t have quality health.

Therefore, in whatever we do, we need to take care of our heath as a priority.

Self means a set of one's characteristics, such as personality and ability, that are not physical that make a person different from other people. It involves studying and knowing who you are, what you practice and what you do routinely that makes you a better person.

These may include your daily routine rituals, meditation, emotional well-being, spiritual and your values. Deepak Chopra observes that “it is within the potential of every human being to live an enriching, self-aware, magnificent life.”

Despite what everyone faces, no matter how big the challenges and problems are, remember in Joshua 1:5 – “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

We all have the inner strength and capacity to confront our challenges provided we acknowledge and accept them.

Let’s be true to ourselves, take a disciplined and consistent approach to understand our emotions, know whether they are empowering or dis-empowering us.  It is up to us to look into the mirror, get real about our situation and decide to face our encounters head-on.

Refers to financial resources to create value to support your life-style. It involves the ability to create income, cash flows and assets. This can be in form of salary income, business income, investment income or any other sources to afford you basic necessitates of life on an-going basis.

You have probably had the phrase that money can’t buy you happiness, but when money is acquired and used correctly it will bring happiness, freedom and so forth but when used inappropriately, it can bring sadness and misery. That’s why some people who are in some of the highly paying jobs and work over 60 hours a week have no freedom over their time, life and some of them are very stressed and unhappy.

Truth be told, in our own communities, we see people with modest incomes but with flexible responsibilities and living a good life that we sometimes admire. Some of the people with more flexible careers making more modest incomes can sufficiently make a good living.

To a certain extent, the way you make your money and use your money is more important than how much money you make.

Life involves relationships, family, friendships, social life, hobbies, interests… etc. This is a critical element that is often not given enough attention. Fun is often the spice of this aspect and the absence of it can be challenging.

To illustrate this, I recently interfaced with a lady who is ready to compromise many things for a good relationship with a spouse and children that listen, share and actively engage with her. Why, she has worked and moved was not happy with her life.  She strongly believes if she dedicates time and nurtures and looks for what she desires, she will get it.

As I conclude, remember – you can choose to live as if nothing is a miracle in your life or decide to live as if everything around you is a miracle.

Allow yourself flexibility to adopt and don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t have appropriate balance in the four areas now. The awareness journey you have started will facilitate step by improvement.

The effort in understanding where you stand with your health, self, wealth and social/spiritual dimensions will go a long way in enhancing your life to be happier, contented and fulfilled.
